Fiction: I have written little fiction and published none, with the exception one longish short story, “The Scythe of Saturn”. It originated as a Christmas present for my family in 1982 and was first printed in Paunch (# 57-58, January 1984), a journal edited by my friend Art Efron. In the same year, I entered it in the first Stand Magazine (Newcastle-on-Tyne) international fiction competition and received an Honorable Mention. The work was reprinted in Stand One (London: Victor Gollancz, 1984; pp. 93-115), an anthology of the competition winners.
Criticism: Two articles, on Spenser and on early opera are, in my view, the only scholarly productions of mine that may have some continuing interest: “Structure and Ceremony in Spenser’s ‘Epithalamion’ ”and “Orpheus Dismembered: Operatic Myth Goes Underground”.
In addition, my "Introduction" to An Outriders Anthology: Poetry in Buffalo 1969-1979 and After (q.v) may be of interest to students of contemporary American poetry.
